Manage Blogroll

The Blogroll is a catchphrase used to describe a list of links. Lists of various links can be created, sorted into categories and various attributes can be attached to each link.

It is worth noting, before going on, that there are a number of services on the internet that allow saving and sorting of links. These services offer a lot of flexibility and most of them can be integrated into a Wordpress blog. Examples of these services include del.icio.us and google bookmarks. The major advantage of these external services is that they are easy to mix with other online services.

The main Blogroll Management page lists all the links that have been created on the site.

The search section at the top of the page allows filtering of the links for easy management.

The first box chooses the category. The second box specifies how the links are ordered. Update performs the search.

The list of links has a number of categories. Name is the display name of the link. URL shows the link, the standard set can be useful if just getting into Wordpress. Categories lists the categories the link is categorized under. “rel” shows how the link will open, either in a new page or the current page. Visible allows toggling of whether a link can be seen on the blog or not, a link can be created but not made visible.

Two actions are provided. Edit allows editing of the details of the link. This is covered in a seperate tutorial. Delete allows the current link to be deleted. There is a checkbox that allows easy deletion of multiple links. Check the box at the top of the column to select all the links, or select individual links, click Delete Checked Links to delete the links that have been checked.
