Posts
Once posts have been written they sometimes need to be modified or updated to reflect changes, or simply modified to fix simple errors like spelling mistakes. This post outlines the admin page that lists posts that have already been written and the options available from that page.
Click on Manage->Posts to display the post management page.
A list is presented. The first line above the list allows the list to be filtered to find specific posts or posts that fit into certain categories.
The Search Terms… text box allows a search term to be entered. Like all the filter options, it is optional.
The Status dropdown list allows posts to be chosen by their status.
The Month dropdown list allows the posts to be chosen by the month in which they were written. The list includes the months and years in which those posts were written.
The Category dropdown list allows the posts to be chosen by the category in which they were placed. Only a single category can be chosen.
Click the Filter>> button to search the list.
The title of the page shows what search terms have been applied.
The list presented shows the posts that have been written. This list includes all posts that have been published or saved on the system. If there are multiple authors on the blog then only posts that apply to that author will appear. Posts that cannot be edited by that author will not be displayed.
The ID column presents the unique identification of the post in the database. This number can be called to directly access the post in the URL. Even if pretty permalinks are used the posts can be accessed through http://www.yoururl.com/?p={ID}
The When column displays the date stamp on the post. The date stamp does not present the last time that post was saved, it presents the date that is associated with the post. After the first time a post is published this can only be changed by manually changing the date and selecting Update Timestamp in the Post Timestamp box.
The Title column will display the title of the post.
The Categories column lists out all the categories that this post has been placed in. The categories are presented as links so if you want to view a list of posts within that category these links will take you to the main site and show the list that users at your site would see. If you want to filter the posts on this page by their categories then use the Filter option at the top of the page.
The Comments column shows how many comments have been made on the current post. Clicking on the link leads to the comments editing page. All the comments for the post will be presented and options of deleting, editing and moderating the comments will be available.
The Author column shows the author of the post. The user’s display name is shown.
There are three options available for each of the posts in the list.
The View link will display the post on the blog. If the post has not been published, it will still be shown to the logged in author of the post. The post will be viewable to anyone who has higher author privileges and is logged in. It will not be available to anyone else who doesn’t have these privileges.
The Edit link allows the post be edited. The page that appears is the same as the page for creating new posts.
The Delete link allows the post to be deleted from the system. Remember that Wordpress doesn’t have an undelete function so any post that is deleted is gone forever. Marking the post as draft rather that deleting it is a good option to keep it for later if needed. A warning box appears when Delete is clicked. Click Cancel to keep the post and return to the editing screen. Click OK to delete the post forever.
